Canadian Heritage, wood burned designs on paddles and decks.
By Dot Bonnenfant, Artisan. Chelsea Quebec.
If any of you have seen the beautiful wood-burned artwork on my wife's kayak deck you'll understand why so many people want to know who did it. We met Dot Bonnenfant, the artist, at the Ottawa Paddle Sports Show a couple of years ago where she was doing wood-burning art on paddles and they were absolutely beautiful. Dot and Barb got together to talk about what could be done on the deck of Barb's new kayak. The result is the wonderful assortment of sea mammals and the story of their creation by the Sea Goddess. You really have to see it to appreciate it. It is truly a "one of a kind". Dot regularly does Heritage paddles by commission. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau was the recipient of one of Dot's paddles, the Canadian Heritage Rivers Conference, 2001: Bill Mason award. The design includes scenes of the Nahanni River, a river that both Mason and Trudeau had loved and paddled. If you are interested in having Dot apply her art to your kayak, give her a call. Her telephone number in Chelsea is 819 827 9081. Dot's E-mail address is dotb@magma.ca
